Forum Sempronii - THE SMALL BATHS - Fossombrone
DESCRIPTION

Excavated since 1974, the Small Baths are the first scientific excavation carried out by the University of Urbino in Forum Sempronii. There are six rooms around a central courtyard, originally arranged to be heated, as the discovery of praefurnia, suspensurae and tubules testifies. Two tanks were found during the excavation, a larger one in the frigidarium and another one in the tepidarium. A large latrine was discovered in the North-East of the building, near the entrance, located on the eastern side.

The water supply was provided by lead pipes, found in recent excavations in various areas of the city. The building was built during the early imperial period and was abandoned around the fifth century a.D., as witnessed by the coins found in the excavation.
